Following Jan's Journey

A conversation (circa 2024-11) in Federated Wiki's Matrix chat has drawn our attention to a wonderful thread of inquiry. Thanks, Jan, for pointing to these things.

One of my current reads is "Programmers and Managers", 1977. I was curious about the conflict between developers and management, particularly since it seems to be with the discipline since at least the 60s.

I am always curious about design/dev concepts fruitfully coming together, since a lot of designers never really seem to have found a goolk place in agile development as happening in practice – perhaps best exemplified by the rather interesting but also frustrating conversation.

Pickering’s "The Cybernetic Brain" has a short but interesting discussion of Christopher Alexander’s work in relation to british cybernetics (p156ff, or just ctrl+f for "A New Kind of Science: Alexander, Kauffman, and Wolfram") – and it has a footnote about Brian Marick pointing out Wikis and Software Design Patterns to the author (Notes to Ch4, #59) book
